Backing Up Network Devices

Step 1: Select Devices to Backup

Navigate to Operations → Backup / Restore in the left sidebar. You'll see the Backup / Restore Operations page with all your configured network devices.

To perform a backup:

• Select devices: Check the boxes next to the devices you want to backup, or click Select All to backup all devices
• Backup Options: Choose Running Config (default) to backup the current active configuration
• Start backup: Click the Backup button in the top right corner

The backup process will begin immediately. You'll see real-time status updates as each device is backed up, including progress bars showing completion percentage.

Note: Devices with "COMPLETED" status have been successfully backed up. "RUNNING" indicates backup in progress, and "PENDING" means the backup is queued.

Step 2: Verify Backup Success on Dashboard

After the backup completes, navigate to Backup → Overview to view the Backup Dashboard. This provides a comprehensive overview of your backup operations.

Key metrics to check:

• Total Network Devices: Shows how many devices are configured in the system
• Last Backup Failure: Should show "None" if all backups succeeded
• Last Configuration Change: Displays the most recent device with configuration changes detected
• Last Backup: Shows the timestamp of the most recent successful backup

The dashboard also includes visual charts showing:

• Device Type Distribution: Breakdown of your device types (Cisco IOS, Mellanox, etc.)
• Success vs Failure Rate: Percentage of successful backups (green) vs failures (red)
• Configuration Changes: Visual timeline showing which devices had configuration changes

Tip: Use the time range buttons (1 Hour, 6 Hours, Day, etc.) to filter the dashboard data for different time periods.

Step 3: Review Backup History

For detailed verification, go to Backup Insights → Backup History. This page shows a comprehensive log of all backup operations.

The Backup History displays:

• Total Backups: Total number of backup operations performed
• Successful: Count of successful backups (should match your total if all succeeded)
• Failed: Number of failed backups (should be 0 for healthy operations)

The detailed backup log shows for each entry:

• Timestamp: Exact date and time of the backup
• Device: Device name that was backed up
• IP Address: Device IP address
• Status: Green "SUCCESS" badge for successful backups
• Config Type: Type of configuration backed up (Running)
• Changes: Indicates if configuration changes were detected (Yes/No Changes)
• Actions: Eye icon to view detailed backup information

You can filter the history by:

• Device: View backups for a specific device
• Status: Filter by success or failure
• Config Type: Filter by configuration type
• Time Range: Select from 1 Hour up to 1 Month

Best Practice: Regularly review the Backup History to ensure all devices are being backed up successfully and to identify any patterns in configuration changes.
