View workstations, servers, printers, phones, cameras, and IoT devices discovered on your network

Overview

The End Device Inventory page displays all non-network-infrastructure devices discovered on your network. Unlike the SNMP Device Inventory which focuses on switches, routers, and firewalls, this page shows end-user devices.

Types of End Devices:

  • Workstations: Desktop computers, laptops, thin clients
  • Servers: Physical and virtual servers
  • Printers: Network printers and MFPs
  • Phones: VoIP phones and softphones
  • Cameras: IP security cameras
  • Access Points: Wireless access points
  • IoT Devices: Smart devices, sensors, controllers
How devices are discovered: End devices are discovered through ping sweeps, ARP table discovery, and LLDP/CDP neighbor information from managed network switches.

Understanding Statistics

Four statistics cards at the top provide a quick overview of your end device inventory:

  • Total Devices: Total count of all discovered end devices
  • Active (24h): Devices seen on the network within the last 24 hours
  • Unknown Type: Devices whose category could not be determined
  • Vendors: Number of unique device manufacturers identified

Device Table Columns

The inventory table displays detailed information for each end device:

Type Device category icon and label
IP Address Current or last known IP address
MAC Address Hardware MAC address (unique identifier)
Hostname Device hostname from DNS or NetBIOS
Vendor Manufacturer from MAC address OUI lookup
Connected To Network switch and port where device is connected
Discovery Method How the device was discovered
First Seen When the device was first discovered
Last Seen Most recent time the device was detected
Status Current activity status

Status Indicators

The Status column shows each device's current network activity:

  • Active Now - Device seen within the last hour
  • Active (24h) - Device seen within the last 24 hours
  • Inactive (1w) - Device hasn't been seen for 1-7 days
  • Offline - Device hasn't been seen for over 7 days
  • Never Seen - Device added manually but never detected

Discovery Methods:

  • Ping Sweep: Device responded to ICMP ping during subnet scan
  • ARP Discovery: Device found in switch ARP tables
  • LLDP/CDP: Device discovered via switch neighbor protocols
  • Manual: Device was added manually by administrator

Searching & Filtering

Use the search and filter controls to find specific devices:

Search Box:

  • Search by IP addresses, MAC addresses
  • Search by hostnames, vendor names

Category Filter:

  • Workstations, Servers, Printers, Phones
  • Cameras, Access Points, IoT Devices, Unknown

Vendor Filter:

  • Filter by specific manufacturer
  • Includes "Unknown" option for unidentified devices

Refreshing Vendor Information

The Refresh Vendors button performs an online lookup of vendor information for devices showing "Unknown".

How to Use:

  • Step 1: Click Refresh Vendors button
  • Step 2: System queries online MAC address databases
  • Step 3: Table refreshes with updated vendor information
Tip: Use this feature after discovering new devices to automatically identify their manufacturers. Vendor information helps categorize devices and identify unauthorized equipment.

Exporting to CSV

Export your end device inventory to a CSV file for reporting or integration with other systems.

How to Export:

  • Apply filters if you want a subset of devices (optional)
  • Click the Export CSV button
  • File downloads as end_devices_YYYY-MM-DD.csv

Exported Data:

  • Type, IP Address, MAC Address, Hostname, Vendor
  • Connected To (switch and port)
  • Discovery Method, First Seen, Last Seen, Status
Note: Export includes only the currently filtered devices. Clear all filters before exporting if you want the complete inventory.

Best Practices

  • Monitor Unknown Devices: Regularly review devices with "Unknown" type or vendor - may be unauthorized
  • Track Active Devices: Use "Active (24h)" to understand current network usage vs historical records
  • Identify Vendors: Run "Refresh Vendors" after network discovery to auto-identify manufacturers
  • Track Physical Locations: Use "Connected To" to identify which switch port each device uses
  • Clean Up Stale Devices: Periodically review "Offline" devices - may be decommissioned
  • Export for Audits: Export device list regularly for compliance audits and security reviews
